FAQs about the Scott Cru serving in J-Ru
1. What is Jerusalem School’s mission and who do you serve?
Jerusalem Schools exists to educate the mind, body, soul, and spirit (Luke 2:52) through information, ideas, ideals, and imagination. It is a K3-12 private Christian school with over 800 students enrolled. About 95% of the student body is of Palestinian decent while the other 5% are of international background. With roughly 70% of the students being Muslims and Christians comprising the other 30%, our campus is a dynamically challenging and unique learning environment.
2. How will you use technology to teach peace and entrepreneurship to the students?
In July 2011, Shane spearheaded a 1:1 deployment of the iPad for grades 7-12. This transition from paper and pen to electronic tablet has done wonders for the school! Currently, the students are using iPads to create history books that focus on Pro-active Peacemakers/Non-violent Revolutionaries who brought about political changes in countries around the world. The completed 2-3 volume set of books will highlight 41 positive change agents. Our online entrepreneurship curriculum focuses on character development, is steeped in Christian business principles, and links students via a proprietary intranet with other entrepreneurs worldwide who are at different stages of their own business cycle.
3. How long do you plan to stay?
We are open to God’s leading and are planning to be there at least for two years as we have used 3 out of the 5 years of our original visa. Visas are unpredictable. Please pray for favor with the Ministry of the Interior. We hope to visit during the summers should support permit.
4. Where will you all be living?
We will be living within 5-minutes walking distance from Jerusalem School and feel very comfortable in our family-friendly neighborhood.
5. What is CPPI and why am I sending my financial support there?
CPPI stands for Center for Proactive Peacemaking International. CPPI is the 501C3 nonprofit organization that was created by the founder and superintendent of Jerusalem School, Ross Byars. It is not only a nonprofit organization that passionately champions peace, its affiliation with the school also helps volunteers raise financial support. Accordingly,
6. How will my contribution help you all in your work?
